Due to the fact that the small courtyard is adjacent to a slightly towering building, Sun Yuanliang built several grilles to prevent the building from exerting a sense of oppression on the courtyard. This not only enriches the spatial hierarchy, harmonizes natural light, and increases privacy, but also blocks the neighboring buildings from view, allowing people to chat under the grilles and focus on the scenery in front of them.

因小院紧挨着一栋略微高耸的建筑，为了不让建筑对小院产生压迫感，孙元亮搭建了几处格栅，不仅丰富了空间层次，调和了自然光，增加了私密性，也在视线上遮挡了隔壁的建筑，人在格栅下聊天，视线聚焦于眼前的风景。
